  • EEDAR: Game sales slowdown turned around in September

2009 hasn’t been the best year for the games industry. Month after month, we hear reports of reduced sales figures, company closures, and layoffs. Things may be turning around, though, as EEDAR analyst Jesse Divnich believes software sales during September 2009 have actually gone up from 2008, the first time in seven months thanks to strong sales of Halo 3: ODST, Wii Sports Resort, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2, Madden NFL 10 and Batman: Arkham Asylum.

Balance Board used in experimental airport screening study

The US has invested a healthy amount of money into combating the terrorist threat — certainly a bit more than $100. According to a CNN report, one of a few experimental methods being used to identify suspicious dudes at the airport uses Nintendo’s Wii Balance Board (sans Wii Fit Plus).Scientists part of the Future Attribute Screening Technology (FAST) program have taken the Wii Fit peripheral and adjusted it to measure how a person shifts their weight. Eliza Dushku interested in live-action Wet

While the idea of getting wet at the movies doesn’t sound all that great (wet clothes and air conditioning don’t mix, people!), the prospect of a Wet movie is certainly something we can get behind. That’s just what voice of Rubi Malone Eliza Dushku proposed during an interview with MTV, stating that the game “maybe could turn into a live-action Dushku vehicle.”Of course, it’s best to keep in mind that there aren’t any actual plans yet; Dushku isn’t confirming things are in motion to make a —- link GamePad: The Best Video Gaming Blog Posts

Final Fantasy XIV’s North American website gets massive update

Final Fantasy XIV has gotten a steady stream of information since its announcement at Sony’s E3 press conference earlier this year. And now, the game’s official website has loosed a flood of information on its classes, enemies, how the classes break down into “disciplines,” and much more. Aside from all the new text, the site also got a handful of new screens (including the fancifully bearded, screaming face you see above).Rather than waiting for us to poorly contextualize the nitty gritty —- link GamePad: The Best Video Gaming Blog Posts The Best Video Gaming Blog Posts From Arond The Web

It’s very unclear if Bungie will be returning to develop another entry into the Halo series, other then next year’s Halo: Reach. However, Microsoft is hellbent on continuing the franchise. Dragon Age: Origins’ Brood Mother looks like she’s from House Harkonnen

Two things came to mind when we first laid eyes on Dragon Age: Origins’ gelatinous boss, the Brood Mother: Wow, it’s been a long time since we’ve seen Blade Man, she really looks like Sting’s uncle But, we digress. The new villain is gigantic in size, has a mouth full of razor-sharp teeth, and has more teets than the most blood-thirsty cow. It’s, uh, pretty much a really disgusting thing.Gallery: Dragon Age: Origins – Brood MotherDragon Age: Origins’ Brood —- link GamePad: The Best Video Gaming Blog Posts The Best Video Gaming Blog Posts From Arond The Web

Xbox 360 | Valve’s domination of digital distribution dangerous – Gearbox CEO

Randy Pitchford says Steam creates “conflict of interest” and exploits smaller developers due to lack of competition. Gearbox Software got its start in the industry back in 1999 working hand-in-hand with Valve, creating add-ons for the Bellevue, Washington-based developer’s influential Half-Life series. Still, despite those beginnings, Gearbox president and CEO Randy Pitchford is wary of the control his former associate has on the future of digital distribution, itself considered by many to be the future of the game industry.

Left 4 Dead 2 Gets "Realism" Mode For Hardcore Zombie Killers [Valve]

For players who find “expert” difficulty too easy in Left 4 Dead, it appears that Valve is upping the challenge for the sequel with “Realism” mode, a game modifier that made an early appearance last night. The folks at 1UP spotted the Realism modifier nestled away in one of the game’s options, then squeezed Valve for details. According to marketing VP Doug Lombardi, Realism is designed for the Left 4 Dead 2 player more skilled, more masochistic than Valve’s own testers.

In an interview with Famitsu, Super Street Fighter IV producer Yoshinori Ono did a lot of hinting, but didn’t really offer any specifics about the new Street Fighter IV update.
