What nightmare! I have spent the past two weeks trying to figure out photoshop (well…I’m using Gimp because I’m poor) but I finally figured it out using a book my parents gave me for christmas and a tutorial on Photoshop I found online. Alright so anyone else who has been racking their poor brains trying to find a way to efficiently and tidily colour in a drawing in photoshop, the key is in ‘Channels’. Turns out, all colour images are in a color environment but they have RGB channels. The red channel is stronger or weaker by having a black and white channel, the more white there is, the more red there is. Same for green and blue. So essentially a simple white dot on a black background can be created by drawing a white dot on the red, green and blue channels. If you wanted just a purple-y dot, you’d have a white dot on just the red and blue channels. Clever! Why the heck is this not explained when you install the program?! Seems pretty essential

Hey guys, i just read my last blog post from ages ago and i was shocked at my slackness and also would like to tell you that my impression of photo-editing software has changed profusely; I love Adobe Photoshop!! However I only have CS2 , but I use it all the time! I haven’t used Photoimpact for aages, and i think photoshop is somewhat better now, in Photoimpact you can’t create new layers and all that, I LOVE layers!!! I would be lost without them. Plus I still love flickr the flames between me and that site still going strong

Today I am doing some work from home to further improve the scanner documentation for Elmhurst computer terminals with scanners. Elmhurst has six terminals with scanners and there has been a problem with students taking the reference staff away from the reference desk to ask questions about how to use the scanners. The first part, as mentioned in a previous blog, was to improve the scanner signage. Second was to update the scanner instructions. Upon gaining feed back from Jacob Hill, who suggested that we needed additional information on scanning images via Photoshop. The current document only covers scanning PDFs via Adobe Acrobat Pro. Jacob wondered if we should combine photoshop and acrobat documentation or if it should be a single document. After putting some thought into the process, I suggested that it remain a single PDF instuctional document as to not create confusion with multiple documents. The file could contain the basic information and choices available for scanning PDFs and/or Images, while linking to Adobe web documentation for additional and complex scanning options. I will be working from home to update the instructions PDF and will finish said documentation on Thursday once my shadowing and Moodle introduction is finished for the day (Thursday, September 10).
